After Shower Temporary Tattoo

C'mon we all know we're hearing this song right now...

Go to 0.23 if you are impatient ;D

Getting Old

You know those Time Life adverts (commercials) that come on late at night? "Get the entire box set of Hogan's Heroes", and other old timey shows like that? Sometimes it's "get this album of 50's rock n' roll!". Well for the first time EVER, I've just seen one of those adverts aimed at my generation. And this was it...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!! So this means I am officially OLD. What's worse though is....I WANT IT!! Look! Free Red Ranger and all!!

5 Banned Toys I Had Growing Up

In no particular order, let's get started!

1. Sky Dancers

I loved these! Yes, a bit dangerous, but that's what makes 'em fun. You never knew when the wing was gonna hit you right in the eyeball....and it often did.

 2. Laser Pointer

I know these aren't illegal in a lot of places but in Scotland they were. That's why we smuggled a few back from Spain in a suitcase. In other news, I have also smuggled fireworks and haggis, though not all at the same time.

3. Barbie Perfume

I remember hearing news of this being banned and thinking "WOW, now it's extra special! I'll be the only one with Barbie Perfume!!!" Apparently it was banned because idiots were drinking it. ...It's perfume. Jeez oh.

4. The Yoyo

See my article on this one RIGHT HERE!

5. Alien Egg Babies

Another one banned by teachers. Apparently they hated when we threw them at the ceiling. You see, you wait til the teacher is out of the room, throw your egg baby at the roof, it sticks....now you wait. Anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes later, you're doing your work and all these alien egg babies start plopping down onto desks and floors. It's hilarious. Hate when they get carpet and fluff stuck to them though.

5 Board Games From My Childhood

Well hello there readers! Today begins a new series called "5 Things", where I list 5 things from my childhood. Today's category is board games, so let's get to it!

Now I'm not gonna mention the obvious games, Monopoly, Cluedo, Kerplunk! You know the ones. I do like Kerplunk though, I even like just saying it. KERPLUNK! Okay, to the games!

1. Don't Wake Dad!

This was so much fun! Though I'm not sure it would even be made nowadays, seeing as the whole idea was to sneak past dad to get midnight snacks from the fridge. Mmm, let's get fat kids!

2. Go For Broke!

You start with 1 million in cash! Now spend it all! This made a welcome change from the money grabbing world of Monopoly, a lot less stressful too. I loved playing the roulette wheel.

3. Upwords

It's Scrabble....but upwards! Again, I liked this because when you're wee Scrabble is kinda hard, this made it much easier AND faster to play.

4. And They're Off!

Yes I did have a lot of gambling related games. This one was fantastic but the hardest part was having to be the commentator. I'll leave that job to someone else while I dwindle my cash, thanks.

5. Star Trek: A Klingon Challenge

MEV! YOU! The one who is moving now...answer me human! So many times I have mentioned this AMAZING game. I cannot say enough about it. Just play it. Go ahead, take the challenge of the Klingon Sword to determine your destiny...

Well hopefully you all enjoyed this trip down memory lane, and that lovely warming nostalgia chemical is being released in your brain. Ahhhh, that's the stuff.

Twitter Interview #8 @80sNostalgia

For my 8th Twitter interview (has it been 8 already?!) is the fantastic @80sNostalgia!!
Hilarious guy and a sort of medium, but instead of letting you talk to the dead, he lets you talk to your past! Kind of...well...he certainly makes you remember things from being a kid that most people have all but forgotten!
Interview time!

Are you happy to participate in this interview or are you doing it against your will?

I'm happy to take part in this interview and do so of my own free will, but a deal is a deal and you must return my phone afterwards. I'm missing it.

State your name and purpose:

I'm Craig, and I own 80sNostalgia.com

What is the funniest animal?

Bats are the funniest. They have the bodies of mice, the tongues of anteaters, the wings of birds, arms made of long sticks and ears from some sort of small cat. They also talk at a pitch no-one can hear. Its as though someone just put all the spare animal parts together and came up with Bats.

Which sitcom wife is the best?

Peggy from Married with Children. That long drawly way of talking, overly flamboyant clothes and hair... I think she's a brilliant character.

You just won a years supply! But of what?

Breakfast cereal. I could live off Corn Flakes or Ricicles.

You really need to go to the bathroom but an elderly lady is taking a million years in there. What do you do?

Probably start to cough to get her attention to hurry her along. Having said that, if I'm waiting for an elderly lady to finish using the toilet, I'm probably in the ladies toilets and likely to be arrested. I believe they have toilets in police stations too, so its a win-win situation.

Tell us an exaggerated story of what you did this morning.

I woke up really early, before the alarm went off in fact, woke my kids up in a cheery way and went downstairs to make coffee. As I stood next to the kettle, I sang something operatic which was completely in tune and waited for my awesomeness to manifest. 3 seconds later, when it did, I pointed to the sky and gave the sun permission to rise. Then I got on with the mundane stuff.

Mickey Mouse, Jerry (from Tom and Jerry), Pinky, The Brain, Fievel. Which is the best mouse?

Even though he is from the 90s, The Brain is by far the best mouse out of that selection. Complete evil genius hindered only by his sidekick. If Pinky wasn't there, The Brain would be have taken over the world years ago.

If you could spend the day traveling through a real life version of a game, which game would you choose? (Video and/or Board game)

I'd probably opt to spend the day travelling through Cluedo. No, actually, that could get a bit tricky having to come up with alibis. I'm quite lazy, so I'd spend a day living Guess Who. I'd just sit there while people said No and pushed me over.

You are yourself at 10yrs old. How would your perfect day go?

I'd go to the sweet shop with my grandpa and buy bags of coltsfoot rock, aniseed twists, winter nips and blackjacks, and spend the day at Blackpool in the arcades on the piers.

Complete the sentence:

Triangular is the best shape for...Doritos. (They are the pinnacle of cheesy goodness.)

2013 would be better if...I'd have followed through with all the things I'd planned to have done in all the previous years.

My brain doesn't...realise I'm 39, and still yearns to do things I used to do in childhood, like skateboard and play tig.

I have at least...20 packets of Space Raiders crisps in the cupboard.

Ladybirds love...other ladybirds.

Would you rather...

Be a guest star on
A) The Cosby Show
B) Cheers
C) Taxi

Cheers - It would be so cool to go somewhere where EVERYBODY knows your name, AND have them be glad that you came. THAT would be cool!

Be presented with an award for
A) Longest moustache
B) Excellent tiptoeing
C) Nobbliest knees

Excellent Tiptoeing - Anything that lets me pull off good Shakin' Stevens impressions, posing on tip toes, must be a good thing!

Have a co-worker who is
A) Too smelly
B) Too talkative
C) Too psycho
D) Doc from Back To The Future, who is desperate to get you to leave work early and get in the DeLorean ASAP

Although the Doc one is the obvious one, I'd prefer to have a co-worker who was too psycho. I do tend to attract the odd people, and have found that if you treat the local psycho like a friend, when they DO eventually completely flip out and go properly psycho, they'll remember that you treated them nicely and spare you from any harm.

Have the super power of
A) Confusion
B) Tickling people from a distance
C) Freezing flies in mid-flight

Oh, tickling people from a distance would be superb! You could even do it covertly so they wouldn't know how it was happening. That would be too good!

Get:
A) a pie in the face
B) Slimed by Slimer
C) Splashed by a car going through a puddle

Pie in the face. I like pie, especially fruit pie, so to get a huge amount of pie is not a bad thing.

Draw a picture of yourself wearing a comical hat. Be as detailed as you wish.

I just have to say, I effing LOVE pencil drawings. Kudos to Craig!

And why not check out his website!

And of course, his twitter feed! @80sNostalgia

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

At long last, I got my Sega Genesis working! Given to me at Xmas from my brother (along with a hell of a lot of games). First time I've ever played a Genesis...hard to believe? Well technically it's true since in Scotland I was playing the Mega Drive.

So, last night I decide to play Sonic 2.
Normally, being the younger child I'm always Player 2, and I like being Player 2. But I had to step it up to being full on Sonic, no more Tails for me. As I played, I made some notes to myself...

(in random order)
  • I hate water levels. Hate em, hate em. I keep drowning, bubbles don't appear when I need them! And I'm too damned cavalier to take a bubble when I'm not drowning. (That would be Aquatic Ruin Zone)
  • Hill Top Zone! I used to love being Tails here because as soon as the level starts I jump on the vine lift and leave Sonic standing there all by himself with nowhere to go. I find this hilario and will do it everytime. So if you see me giggling at the music for that level it's because I'm thinking of that feeling.
  • I don't like when a spring sends me in the wrong direction or into spikes. However I do like it when it sends me to another close by spring and I shoot rapidly back and forth between the two. Ahh, that's the stuff.
  • My husband (who was in the room at the time) has never played Sonic, of any kind, ever. And when Casino Night Zone started, he was heard to remark "That's some funky music". Yes. Yes it is.
  • Another memory I have of Casino Night Zone, is being Tails, oh my lovely Tails...and getting stuck in walls due a glitch, and floating about the place like an escaped mental patient seeing the world for the first time in years.
  •  Mystic Cave Zone! We used to call this the Chippy Zone, cause randomly, EVERY SINGLE TIME we played, someone would bring chippy chips into the house. We used this round sparingly due to this. Alas, last night there were no chippy chips brought to me :( ...though today I found out my brother had chippy chips back in Scotland! SO IT STILL WORKS!!
  • Special Stages. Gotta love em. But mostly only as Tails (again). It's too much pressure to collect and avoid while being Sonic. Plus I like spinning in circles and being of use to no one. ...Much as in life! I guess video games really do influence us :O
