An update on my favourite show - Life of Dragon and Tiger (SPOILERS)

Stephen
As you know, I've been watching Life of Dragon and Tiger. Well, the series is now over. And as you may or may not remember I spoke about a man I've named Stephen. I wrote, quote,
"He's crying at this very moment. Breaks my heart to see young Stephen cry."
I wonder what could possibly break my heart even more than seeing him cry? On Monday night.....I saw him die!

Okay, I admit he was on a downward spiral, he was selling drugs, taking drugs, working for the guy we've named "The Magician" (he's a high up non-communist guy), setting up his mentor for crimes he didn't commit because the woman Stephen loves is in love with him, and he seemed act weirder by the day not to mention not being able to perform surgeries anymore. But I was sure he was going to get better!

Anyway, he was shot by "The Magician". I couldn't believe it.

Let's relive some Stephen memories.
Stephen on the right with "Senor Caro" on the left. I remember these days, it was the start of his downfall.

Damn, this is 5 minutes before he dies. Stephen on the left, "The Magician" on the right.

Random Things I Find Interesting - YouTube Edition

  • Lady From Shanghai Scene - Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth, I don't think I have to explain why this is good.
  • Pennies From Heaven Scene - I love this movie, it is so underrated and it annoys me how regular people don't "get it". Basically in this scene, Steve Martin takes homeless guy for a meal. For some reason this movie really inspires me everytime I see it, the writing, the music, the set decoration, everything! Makes me want to go finish writing what Paul refers to as my "Woody Allen style movie".
  • Gilda Scene - Johnny (Glenn Ford) is awakened by some distant music "At first I thought I was dreaming it. I'd been hearing her voice in my sleep for nights anyway..." then this scene ensues.
  • Joseph Schmidt sings "Una Furtiva Lagrima" - From the 1936 German movie "Star Fell From Heaven".

(Nothing to do with the photo) I was up til 5.30am last night, enraptured by Joseph Schmidt sing "una furtiva lagrima" among others. I don't think I'll sleep for a while tonight either.

Full Tilt Laura Learning from the Pros

Congratulations Mr Hellmuth on your 11th bracelet.

On another poker note, I am funding Paul's tournaments for a while and also yesterday tricking him into playing freerolls.

This isn't really even anything. I just wanted to see if I stood on my bed would I be able to reach the roof (then Paul took a picture against my will). Turns out yes I can.

Life of Dragon and Tiger End Credits

I love this show

Theory

Years of watching Hook (the movie, 1991) as a child over and over again have influenced my psyche. Paul and I both believe this is one of the reasons I act the way I act, I like to use the word grandiose. I guess people act like who they think is cool.

Even now, when I watch it and Hook is presented for the first time, my eyes widen and I think "wow, Hook is so cool" but then again everyone gets that reaction when they see Hook. I know because I've seen Leonnie watch it! And yes, in my mind, Leonnie and I constitutes everyone.

I've cloned myself

Literally. I've cloned myself. Okay, literally as in I used the clone tool on Photoshop. It's as literal as I can get without breaking the law.

I told Paul this is what it's like in my head. He didn't know what I meant.....and neither did I.

I Stabbed My Hand

I am currently in the midst of making an anti pasti from my Henry Hill Wiseguy Cookbook. 15 minutes ago I was trying to pay attention to cutting the garlic but my senses were distracted by watching Penn & Teller and Paul talking about formaldehyde.

As I held a piece of garlic with one hand and tried to chop it with the knife in my other, I heard Penn say he knows a guy called Jesus and he plays world championship poker (shocked to hear that in the mainstream!) then Paul said something about formaldehyde and I was trying to comprehend that then OUCH! I literally stabbed myself in the hand! Not just a "ooh, I cut my finger while chopping" it was a STAB! I have a hole in my hand! It's small but it's a hole! No blood but it hurt!

Jade Guanyin? No

Recently I've said a few things about a wonderful show I've been watching on Phoenix called Jade Guanyin. Well I was misled! It's actually called "Life of Dragon and Tiger". It's such an amazing show and at this point in the post I'd like to remind you that it's in Chinese, there are no subtitles and I have no idea what they are saying. Still an amazing show.

I'll probably talk more about it over the next few weeks as I'm watching it every night but for now I'll say this.....

There is an incredibly cool guy in the show and we call him L.C. Simply meaning "Laura's Character" He goes around shouting at EVERYONE, he rides a horse, he seems to be high up in the army and he has something wrong with or in his head. For all these reasons LC is cool. Here's a photo of him!

Random Things I Find Interesting

  • Paul is still telling me I should go off my meds because, quote, "it'll be hilarious."
  • Daniel Negreanu's new house.
  • The very underrated movie "Don't Bother To Knock" starring Marilyn Monroe and Richard Widmark.
  • Right now I am watching the Phoenix channel, a show called Jade Guanyin, I obviously don't know what they're saying since it's Chinese but there is a guy I've named Stephen and he's crying at this very moment. Breaks my heart to see young Stephen cry. (he may also be on drugs, I think that's what I've gathered)
  • "In my case, self-absorption is completely justified. I have never discovered any other subject quite so worthy of my attention." - Waldo Lydecker in the movie "Laura".
